When people think of the beauty of London they usually tend to think of tourist attractions, Big Ben, the London Eye and places like that. People see what society considers to be the most beautiful side of London, and because of this they don’t see the small things as beautiful. I wanted to show a different side of the beauty of London, the little things in the everyday that people don’t necessarily notice. Discarded beauty.
The things I chose to photograph were discarded, or dumped. These are things that people would normally see as rubbish. When I took photos I revealed them in a different way so that they became beautiful. I experimented with different angles and close ups; this gave the viewer a different, beautiful interpretation of the things they were seeing.
I chose photography for my project because I knew that I could experiment and learn a new skill. Before I started, I had no idea how to turn a camera on, let alone take photos; I kept getting confused between the button to take the picture and the button to turn the camera off!
This project gave me the opportunity to learn not only how to take photos, but how to make them interesting. I did this by not revealing everything at once, but by telling a story through the images.
